Gender and Transport in Haiti: Gender Diagnostic and Gender Action Plan

This technical note encompasses Haiti's gender assessment, evaluates the success of gender specific actions implemented between 2011-2017, and presents a Gender and Transport Action Plan (GAP). The GAPs main aim is to guide investments in Haiti's transport sector in conceptualizing and designing gender-sensitive transport projects. By proposing specific gender actions and outcomes, the GAP establishes a clear path to integrate a gender dimension into operations design, implementation and, monitoring and evaluation.

Education Management and Information Systems (SIGEDs) can be defined as the set of key educational management processes required for the design, registration, generation, exploitation and dissemination of strategic online information in an integral manner in the framework of specific legal, institutional and technological infrastructure. A SIGED should allow a complete and efficient management of the relevant processes at all the levels of the education system, incorporating new technologies (Arias Ortiz et al., 2019).

Effect of Remittances on Food Security in Venezuelan Households

Social, political, and economic instability in Venezuela has led to a shift in the regions migration patterns in recent years, with millions of Venezuelans migrating to find better job opportunities or to better provide for the families they leave behind. In this context, remittances play a key role as part of the available income of households that receive them. This study analyzes how these monetary flows, in the context of a migratory crisis, become a livelihood strategy for coping with the food insecurity that Venezuelan households face.

Qualified teachers are a fundamental input for any education system. Yet, many countries struggle to attract highly skilled applicants to the teaching profession. This paper presents the results of a large-scale intervention to attract high performing high-school students into the teaching profession in Chile. The intervention was a three-arm email campaign which made salient three types of motivations typically associated with the teaching profession: intrinsic/altruistic, extrinsic, and prestige-related.

The Impacts of Remote Learning in Secondary Education: Evidence from Brazil during the Pandemic

The goal of this paper is to document the pedagogic impacts of the remote learning strategy used by an state department of education in Brazil during the pandemic. We found that dropout risk increased by 365% under remote learning. While risk increased with local disease activity, most of it can be attributed directly to the absence of in-person classes: we estimate that dropout risk increased by no less than 247% across the State, even at the low end of the distribution of per capita Covid-19 cases.

Spotlight: 21st Century Skills in Latin America and the Caribbean

Without certain core abilities, even extreme knowledge or job-specific skills will not be worth much in the long run. To address these issues, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and HundrED conducted this Spotlight project with the goal of identifying and researching leading innovations that focus on 21st Century Skills in Latin America and the Caribbean.
