Are independent workers financially prepared for accidents, diseases or retirement? In this Webinar held on November 15, 2023, experts of the IDB, IDB Lab, and the World Bank quantified and characterized independent work in Latin America, the Caribbean, and the world, explored the opportunities and risks that come with new forms of employment, and discussed the innovations required to make independent work a better option for the millions of people making a living as independent workers in the region today.

Laura Ripani, chief of IDB's Labor Market and Social Security Division, conducted a roundtable with Oliver Azuara, IDB Senior Specialist and leader of IDB’s Laboratory of Digital Social Security; Namita Datta, Coalition Manager for World Bank’s Solutions for Youth Employment initiative; and Fermín Vivanco, Lead Specialist at IDB Lab.

IDB’s Laboratory of Digital Social Security explores cost-effective solutions to increase the access and coverage of social security for the millions of independent workers in Latin America and the Caribbean.
