Can we really change parenting behavior?

This question has been on our minds as we analyze the effects of a recent home visit program implemented by the Nicaraguan government (results forthcoming, stay tuned!). The Nicaraguan intervention, like most home visit programs, targets children’s first and arguably most important teachers: their parents. The curriculum aims to strengthen parents’ knowledge of early childhood development and provide concrete examples of activities parents can do with their children to encourage early cognitive, social-emotional, and language skills.

Applying Behavioral Insights to Intimate Partner Violence: Improving Services for Survivors in Latin America and the Caribbean

According to global survey data, 30 percent of women who have ever been in a relationship have experienced physical and/or sexual violence, perpetrated by their intimate partner. In Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), it is estimated that 29.8 percent of ever partnered women have been physically or sexually abused by their partners.

In this first issue of “The future of work in Latin America and the Caribbean” series, we approach this topic from a general perspective with the idea of offering a conceptual framework to set the coordinates for the debate. First, we address the two major trends that, in our opinion, will shape the labor market of the future: the technologic tsunami and demographic aging. Their potential impacts in the world of work, as we explain later, will be of great relevance for countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, of which we offer some interesting data to promote this conversation.
