This technical note describes the methodological decisions for the estimation of comparable figures of participation rates in formal childcare in Latin America and the Caribbean, through data from available nationally representative household surveys over the past decade. The estimates show that attendance to childcare centers is low, in particular for the younger children. In addition, the proportion of children attending childcare programs is generally much higher among the well-off households and those with more educated parents.

The primary goal of a pension system should be to provide adequate, affordable, sustainable, and robust retirement income. Belize, like many other countries in the Caribbean, faces the challenge to both expand the pension coverage and guarantee its financial sustainability. In the last few years, the issue of social security reform has been a rising concern in Belize, as well as throughout the region. In this context, Belize has undertaken actuarial forecasts to examine the prospective state of its social security scheme.
To test the effectiveness of a public awareness campaign on women's political participation in a developing country, we conducted a randomized field experiment across 40 municipalities in Guatemala. The goal of the campaign was to raise awareness about the importance of women's civic and political participation within the context of the 2011 general elections in Guatemala. We found no measurable impact, but provide lessons learned that can be helpful to other teams undertaking similar initiatives.
