Numeracy Education in Latin America and the Caribbean: Summary Report

On June 7, 2010, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) hosted an expert seminar in Washington DC entitled "An Even Start: Numeracy Education in Latin America and the Caribbean." The seminar aimed to share some of the initiatives implemented under the IDB's Numeracy initiative, which is focused on implementing policies to help children reach their full potential in mathematics and the natural science.

ALAS IDB Early Childhood Development Awards: 2012

The ALAS-IDB Awards arise from the need to recognize the dedication, innovation, and excellence of so many people who work in early childhood development in Latin America and the Caribbean. Presented jointly by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the ALAS Foundation of the international artist Shakira, awards are given in four categories, highlighting leading educators, centers, publications, and innovations in the region.

Leading the Way to Math and Science Success: Challenges and Triumphs in Paraguay: New research from the Inter-American Development Bank on the promotion of critical thinking in preprimary and primary

In Paraguay, for the past three years the Ministry of Education and Culture and the IDB have jointly studied what works in math and science education in Paraguay. During this time we have been fortunate to develop meaningful partnerships with hundreds of school districts, as well as with the Japan International Cooperation Agency and the Organization of Ibero-American States. With this publication we hope to invite other actors from the private and nongovernmental sectors and from the donor community to partner with us in promoting math and science learning for all Paraguayan children.

An Equal Start: Numeracy Education in Latin America and the Caribbean

This art exhibit, held at IDB's headquarters on June 7-11, 2010, embodies the hope and aspiration that all students will gain a level of numeracy essential for successful participation in school, work and everyday life. The artworks on exhibit were selected from over 250 pieces submitted by artists representing nineteen Latin American and Caribbean countries. The exhibition constitutes the visual launch of a new IDB effort focused on implementing policies that help children reach their full potential in mathematics and natural science.

Technical Support Network to Employment Services in Latin America and the Caribbean

The development of a country depends to a large extent on its labor force, and public employment services play a central role so that people can find good jobs and companies can get qualified workers according to their needs.
The Inter-American Development Bank created the Red SEALC in 2009 to support the efforts of Latin American and Caribbean governments to build and strengthen their public employment services. The initiative aims at improving the labor opportunities for workers and increasing the productivity of businesses and countries.

2015 Annual Progress Report on the Implementation of the Gender Action Plan for Operations (2014-2016)

Violence Against Women and the Criminal Justice System: Synopsis

All member countries of the IDB have ratified the International Convention to Prevent, Punish, and Eradicate Violence Against Women. But to date implementation has not been sufficient to deal with the phenomenon in a comprehensive way. Additional efforts are needed to fulfill the termsof the law and to ensure women¿s access to legal services, assistance,
and reparation.
