If you are 65 years old in Panama, you can expect to live 14 additional years in good health and free of poverty. This is 9 years more than in Honduras, and 4 years above the average for Latin American and Caribbean countries. In a recent study, we calculate this measure of older persons’ quality of life for all the countries of the region.

Student performance on standardized tests is typically the main measure of school quality. However, is it the case that schools that improve academic test scores are the same schools that also improve important longer-run outcomes such as crime, risky behaviors, college attendance, and earnings?
We study the labor supply impact of the COVID-19 pandemic by gender in four Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries: Brazil, Chile, Dominican Republic, and Mexico. To identify the impact, we compare labor market stocks and labor market flows over four quarters for a set of balanced panel samples of comparable workers before and after the pandemic. We find that the pandemic has negatively affected the labor market status of both men and women, but that the effect is significantly stronger for women, magnifying the already large gender gaps that characterize LAC countries.

This note seeks to give a possible answer to the question regarding what coverage of information on migrants currently exists in the censuses and regular household surveys carried out in the region?

Telecare is a remote care service that has flourished in recent years because of the many benefits it offers to users, their caregivers, and the health and social services system as a whole. In Europe, the penetration rate of telecare among people older than 65 ranges from below 3% to 11%. In Latin America and the Caribbean, available telecare does not yet meet the existing need for care services, and the region lacks studies that provide a broad perspective on the services potential impact on the region.
